Having seen so much press and advertising in the run up to
the event I had quite high expectations so last Friday I took myself off to
Stylist Live to see what all the fuss was about.
What struck me when I arrived at the Islington Business
Design Centre was the sheer scale and attention to detail the Stylist team had
put into the event. Hanging high above the shops were some of iconic magazine
covers from past issues which looked striking against the buildings structure.
Alongside amazing shopping there were also a number of
talks, demonstrations and catwalk shows, everything from how to start a
business for under £100 to question time with Nic and Sam Chapman of Pixiwoo
I attended the first talk of the day with Nic and Sam
Chapman from Pixiwoo and Real Techniques on the topics of beauty, blogging and
creating a brand. It was such an interesting talk and both Sam and Nic were
fantastic speakers. Pixiwoo was born from an accident in 2008 when Sam wanted
to show a beauty technique to someone who had asked but she didn’t want to
write it down on an email. Since then they have been creating make up looks
which connect trend make up looks from the catwalk to the real person making
the looks achievable to everyone.
On the subject of contouring Nic made a fantastic comment
which I think applies to everything. ‘There’s room for people who they want to
Both ladies stated that investment in the right foundation
is a must and with it you can get away with anything colour wise. Oh and
lipliner is an absolute must with red lipstick!
Towards the end of the talk Sam went on to demonstrate a
quick smokey eye look, something I always struggle with. She was using
eyeshadow crayons which are a great product to create the perfect look. It was
such an interesting session. I’ve watched one or two Pixiwoo videos in the past
but I’ve now become a subscriber and am hoping to tighten up my current make-up
techniques and try some new ones.
Throughout the show there were lots of great brands offering
trails and freebies, I visited the Ford Fiesta stand to have my hair braided by
the lovely ladies from Rush Salon, my skin care regime updated by Clarins and
my make-up done on the Benefit stand. Oh I almost forgot the great gin tasters
on the Portobello Gin stand.
