I’d like to think we ate well whilst in Australia but looking back a lot of the places we went were nice, but not blow you away amazing. This was mainly through choice because we were on a bit of a budget and want to experience so many things.
We did treat ourselves on our last day in Sydney and had lunch on Fort Denison which is a little island fort in the middle of the harbour. And oh my goodness we are so pleased we splashed out.
Considering it’s quite a tourist attraction my first thought was that it would all be a bit gimmicky and the food a bit substandard. Well I couldn’t have been more wrong!
I’m not usually a dessert person but I will always look at the dessert menu first, this always helps me decide if I’m having a starter or not. The sight of passionfruit meringue had me wanting to skip starters and mains and going straight in.
Having been in Australia for an entire month by this point I’d still not had kangaroo steak. Now this is something I had practically given myself a food coma with when I’d visited 9 years before. So when I spied kangaroo loin on the menu I knew I had to have it.
Mr B opted for braised Wagyu beef cheeks which looked incredible. Now, I know this is a bit of a clique, but his knife literally slid through the beef like butter. So tender and from what I was told, tasted amazing. (Funny enough he didn’t want to share!)
Onto the kangaroo loin, it came with a walnut and gorgonzola salad. Kangaroo is an incredibly rich meat but is packed with protein. Rosemary salted fries on the side are also an absolute must!
Not only was the food incredible but the view really made it 1000 times better. I don’t think anything can beat sitting in the sunshine with a glass of bubbles in hand looking at the opera house and Harbour Bridge.
If you do one thing in Sydney make sure it’s having lunch at Fort Denison!
