I love Dublin and every time I’ve visited, the city has changed in some way or another. On my last visit in August one of the biggest things that struck me most, was the number of new restaurants and bars which had opened up.
Whilst in Dublin we found the gorgeous and slightly boho bar, Chelsea Drugstore on George’s Street which is a short hop, skip and jump from the infamous Temple Bar. From the outside (during the day) it’s nothing special and easily missed (we walked past it twice before actually finding the door), but through the dark façade lays an eclectic mix of welcoming comfy chairs, exposed brick walls and dark lighting.
We visited for pre-dinner cocktails and although we were the only ones in the bar at 5pm it didn’t seem to affect the atmosphere at all. I know it all sounds a bit hipster with it’s exposed brick and mismatched furniture, but it was such a great bar and the cocktail menu was amazing and of course I had to sample one or two just to make sure……….
I’m a huge fan of citrus cocktails either gin or prosecco based rather than creamy or coffee ones. Summer in Surrey was a really light and refreshing cocktail with gin and calvados (apple brandy) shaken with a homemade strawberry shrub and smoke black tea served over ice. I know it sounds like a bit of an odd concoction but it really did taste like summer in a rather gorgeous silver tankard.
In terms of price it’s very much on par with cocktail bars in London and what you’d expect to pay in Dublin. What doesn’t help is the current Euro rate which seems to be plummeting further through the floor every time I look. You should expect to pay around 11.50 Euros per cocktail, but they are totally worth it!
