I’ve been an avid subscriber to Birchbox for a long time and have written about my love for them previously but, December’s just missed the mark for me. Now, I don’t usually like to be a negative Nora here on DelphineBlu, so think of this post as more ‘meh’ than a super negative.
The December box was in collaboration with designer Matthew Williamson and this is reflected in the box design. I opted for the deep rose red design which is incredibly pretty and has been taken from Williamson’s Treasure Garden print. Unlike the November box in collaboration with Vogue, where the products within the box were related to the Vogue 100, nothing in this box actually relates back to the designer nor (from what I can tell) did he have any input in choosing them.
So what was in my box?
- Shea butter lip balm in natural rose from Pixi by Petra
- Baija Paris, caramelised honey body scrub
- Mai Couture highlighter paper
- Nip + Fab kale fix moisturiser
- Spectrum Collections angled blender brush
There are two 100% hit products for me – the lip balm from Pixi by Petra and the Spectrum Collections brush, both of which I know I’ll use. But, the other products miss the mark for me. The caramelised honey body scrub smells like I should be spreading it on my toast in the morning and the highlighter paper is a bit of a faff to actually use, especially if you don’t want to end up looking like a highlighted beacon spotted from the space station. The Nip+Fab moisturiser is just a bit ‘meh’ for my taste, it’s got a very strong scent which isn’t something I go for in a moisturiser. In fact it smells a little like cucumber sandwiches!
Now I know some of the other boxes had a completely different selection of products including Rituals foaming shower gel and Sand & Sky brilliant skin clay mask which both sound lovely. I think I may have just have just had a bit of a ‘meh’ box this time.
Please don’t let this put you off if you’re thinking of signing up to Birchbox as I’ve had some fantastic product selections previously.
