Back in my younger years when I was going out every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and sometimes Sunday night’s I’d often be running on limited sleep and would always say daft things like ‘I’ll sleep when I’m dead’ and ‘sleeping’s cheating’. But, now that I’m older and hopefully a little wiser I’ve realised that sleep is the key!
For me, I need to get at least eight solid hours but recently I’ve found myself waking up at random times and not being able to drop off into the land of nod easily. When the PR team over at Benenox Overnight Recharge approached me and asked if I wanted to try out their product, I thought I’d give it a whirl.
Benenox Overnight Recharge is a liquid supplement which you take before you go to bed. In the information sheet which came with the bottle it has 11pm down as bedtime, I want to shout out ‘hey 9pm is my usual cut off’. But, and I know I’m not alone with this, I might be in bed by 9pm I’ll then spend the next hour mindlessly scrolling through social media which isn’t ideal especially as it makes my brain go into overdrive rather than relax into sleep mode.
To really give it a good go I’ve tested the lemon & ginger flavour Benenox over the course of seven days over Christmas and New Year. I decided to do it at this time as I had so much going on and found my sleep pattern all out of whack.
I’m going to say this now, it’s not my favourite taste in the world and if you’re not a fan of ginger then I’d recommend the blackcurrant flavour.
I took it every night for a week from Christmas Eve through to New Year’s Eve (we didn’t go out!) I did get used to the taste but it did feel a little sugary to me. I did feel like I was dropping off to sleep easier than I had in the weeks leading up to me testing it out but, I did still wake up in the night. I think this has more to do with Nigel the cat demanding food at 4am than anything else.
So did it work? Well, I think so. I’m not going to stand here and shout from the rooftops that this is the answer to a long and restful night’s sleep but, I do think it aided with my sleep along with some other things I’ve been doing. These include using Sleepmasks – literally the most amazing invention ever, putting my phone down and not mindlessly scrolling through social media channels and not drinking tea after 4pm. I know the last one sounds a bit weird but the caffeine in tea seems to keep me awake if I drink it late afternoon.
Would I use it again? Yes but I’d go for the blackcurrant flavour over the ginger and lemon, the latter was just too gingery!
