Wales – don’t knock it until you’ve tried it

I’ve just come back from an incredible week on the
Pembrokeshire Coast in Wales and its gone straight into my top 10 list of great
holidays I’ve had.

Having never been to Wales before I was under the impression
that our entire week would be spent dodging rubbish weather and being
constantly cold, how wrong was I?! The sun shone continually for the entire
week, I’ve even got a little bit of a tan! I was completely blown away with how
pretty it was and how massive the beaches were. Literally miles upon miles of
sand and ocean, ideal for beach bums.

There were 10 of us plus Wally the Collie staying in a holiday home
in Freshwater East which had a fantastic balcony overlooking the beach below.
Sharing a house with a big group of friends is a great way to keep the costs
down, it only cost us £100 each for the accommodation for the week. We were so
lucky with the weather it meant we could make full use of the fabulous balcony
enjoying drinks as the sun set.

The main reason for our week on the Pembrokeshire Coast was
to watch our friend compete in and complete the Tenby Ironman, apparently one
of the hardest Ironman courses in the world. An Ironman, if you didn’t know
consists of a 2.5mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and then a marathon! The whole
of Tenby turned out to watch 2,000 incredibly fit men and women take on the
course. It was such a fantastic atmosphere and really exciting to be cheering
everyone on.

Tenby is a
gorgeous fishing town within the UK’s only coastal national park (the
Pembrokeshire Coast is a national park) and not only gave us great places to
eat and shop but also massive expanses of blue flag beaches. If you love
seafood you have to wander down to Castle Square where you can buy freshly
caught fish and seafood from one of the stalls or book a boat trip around the
coast. I love wandering around pretty towns and Tenby is the perfect place for
that. Shopping wise there are loads of really cute little boutiques selling
original and unique items.

I’ve got so much to tell you about  our holiday in Wales that I can’t fit it
all into one post, keep your eyes peeled for the next instalment including SUP
boards on the ocean and a near miss on my new bike coming soon!
